INTERNET FISHING REPORT

Unbelieveable ! The weather is actually improving at long last. The longest winter in recent time is finally vanishing and anglers are out and about once again. Pike fishing has been extremely good on windermere with fish to 30lbs coming out - with report of many 20lb+ fish from all areas of the lake. Both bank anglers and boat anglers doing very well. Rydal and Grasmere are also producing. On the smaller waters like Tewitfield and Borwick simialar sized large doubles are being banked. Coarse fishing at Ratherheath has been very good on days after a reasonably mild night. Odd frosty night has slowed the following day's fishing up. Popped up brightly coloured boilies have done particularly well, generally sweet flavours like pineapple habe out performed duller meat flavours. TENCH AND Grass Carp on the canal showing early signs of interest and this week's favourable weather may push them along. Trout fishing on the river is going ok, with some nice fish coming out from the lads club area at the northern end of town. Stillwater trout has been very good also on Farleton, Wych Elm, High Newton and Kentmere. Try Viva, Minkie, Black Tadpole and Bibio. Sea fishing down at Silverdale has been good for flatties during the windy weather.

Gatebeck And Banks Pond

Keep clear of banks pond for a week or two, ongoing resurfacing work on the road is being done.

Bigland Hall

No news on this water

Borwick Day Ticket

The big fish are now starting to be caught, although spawning has slowed this up recently

Esthwaite Water

TROUT FISHING The hot weather has severely restricted top of the water fishing, with fish only willing to feed on the surface at either end of the day. During the heat of the day fast sinking lines have been successful as the fish have been holding at 10 – 15 feet deep and gorging on daphnia. Favourite tactics when conditions are like this have been lure/nymph combo’s , however the forecast is set to cool by mid week and so the fishing should improve. The water is alive at present with hatching invertebrates, natural food is abundant with buzzers, olives, hawthorn and alders all present in good numbers. Damsels and dragon flies are now also hatching and the coarse fish are set to spawn any day, adding to the huge larder of food the trout have at this time of year! The rod average is 4.1 fish per angler! Best recent bags include Alan Dobson from Maryport who fished a damsel nymph from the boats to take 20 rainbows and browns to 3lb+.! Meanwhile Johnathon Hulme from Blackpool took the largest fish with an over wintered rainbow of 6lb 2oz and 16 other back up fish to complete his impressive haul. All Johnathon’s fish were taken from the boats. Again boat angler Dave Morris from Lancaster took 8 fish to 3lb + on a di-3 booby combo’. Season ticket angler John Gardner took 6 fish to 2lb 8oz on hares ears fished from the boats around the cages area of the lake. David Palmer from Preston fished the car park banking with legered worm to take 9 rainbows and 6 browns. Biggest fish was a cracking rainbow of 5lb 4oz. Heat 3 of the Esthwaite Water Open Pairs competition was contested by 6 anglers who weighed in 25 fish for a total weight of 45lb 8oz. In second place John Henderson and Tom Nelson weighed in 12 fish for 19lb 3oz and in first place Mike Frith and Mike Henshall weighed in 12 rainbows for 24lb 9oz, including time bonuses. Both pairs now qualify for the final in September! For up to the minute information log onto www.hawksheadtrout.com or telephone on 015394 36541

Farleton View Fishery

Farleton fishing well on breezier days. Green and white fritz, black f fly, greenwell doing well.

Ghyll Head and High Newton Reservoirs

High Newton fishing very well on camer days as temperature increases the buzzer hatch should really kick off. Try suspender buzzer on quieter days.

Kentmere Lake

Up and at 'em, Kentmere has reopened. This is now members only water and is fishing very well to small wets… Bibio, etc.

Killington Reservoir

Fairly quiet on Killington, occasional small pike and trout coming out. Roach fishing spectacular with large bags to feeder and punched bread. Maggots now banned til 15th june.

Lancaster Canal

Piking eerily quiet. Tench starting to show but could do with sustained weather to get them really going

Ratherheath Tarn

Carp appear to have generally benefitted from the winter freeze - less predation. Try pop up sweetcorn, pop up Pineapple boillie or any other sweet, bright flavour.

River Kent www.kentangling.co.uk

Kent season kicks off with some nice fish to fly at Sedgwick and also nice trout up at lads club at top end of kendal.

Rydal Grasmere and Coniston

Grasmere is good, as is Coniston but Rydal is perhaps the worse of the three. Having said that all waters providing good sport. Popped up smelt doing very well on Grasmere.

Tewitfields Coarse Lake

Nice pike to 25lb over the past week or so. Carp are also starting to feed..try maggot ring with bunch of maggots with some hemp and hali crush in a feeder.

Windermere

Pike fishing superb with reports of personal bests from all over the lake. Fish reported to 30lb from bank at northern end. Smelt and Mackerel doing most of the damage.

Wych Elm

Always good for an evening blast. Rises seem short and fast, last thing at night with action fast and furious from 9.00pm. Try smallest black spidr you possess and grey duster for dry fly sport.
